GBPW announces new executive director

Mark Hanly, MD, Chairman of the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce, is pleased to announce that the Board has named Ms. LaSharn Hughes as executive director of the Board to succeed Cherri Tucker as of May 2, 2016. The Board is confident that Ms. Hughes will effectively lead the agency in its mission advise the Governor and the General Assembly on physician workforce and medical education policy and issues, identify the physician workforce needs of Georgia communities and to meet those needs through the support and development of appropriate medical education programs.

Ms. Hughes brings with her 12 years of experience as the former executive director of the Georgia Composite Medical Board, where she worked closely with the medical schools and residency training programs in Georgia. Prior to this position, Ms. Hughes was executive director for the Office of the Secretary of State where she managed eight healthcare professional boards.

Ms. Hughes is a graduate of Brenau University, Gainesville, Georgia where she received her bachelor's in education and MBA. Ms. Hughes resides in Powder Springs, Georgia with her family.
