First malpractice premium assistance awards approved

The Georgia Board for Physician Workforce voted during its January meeting to approve two applications for the new Medical Malpractice Insurance Premium Grant program.

House Bill 769, which was passed by the General Assembly during the 2018 legislative session and signed by then-Gov. Nathan Deal, authorized the GBPW to provide medical malpractice insurance premium grants to physicians that maintain a practice in an underserved, rural area of the state that currently has one or fewer physicians. This program stemmed from health policy recommendations of the House Rural Development Council.

A full list of program recipients and their practice location counties will be available on the GBPW's website after all contracts are fully executed.
