GBHCW April Board Meeting Highlights

GBHCW April Board Meeting Highlights

On April 24th, the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce (GBHCW) held a virtual board meeting, featuring thoughtful discussions on Georgia’s evolving healthcare landscape.

One of the key highlights was the launch of our new Optometry Dashboard, which offers valuable insights into the supply and distribution of optometrists across the state. Additionally, our Physician Workforce Dashboard has been updated with 2023–2024 licensure data to reflect the most current information on physicians practicing in Georgia.

Our data team also presented several important reports, including the 2023–2024 Georgia Physician Workforce Report, the Five-Year Composite UME Match Outcomes, and the 2025 Match Report.

We were honored to welcome Dr. Donna Lamb, President and CEO of the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), commonly known as “The Match.” The NRMP is responsible for placing medical school graduates into clinical training programs, ensuring a steady pipeline of highly qualified professionals prepared to care for patients across the country. Dr. Lamb shared insights on national trends and data specific to Georgia.

Finally, the GBHCW shared updates on the Nursing School Grants and Graduate Medical Education (GME) Exploratory Grants. Recipients will be announced once all contracts are finalized.

Our next Board meeting will be held on July 24th in Douglas, Georgia, at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Please sign up as an interested party for updates about our next Board meeting.
