GBPW launches online visualization tool to highlight the state’s physician workforce data

The Georgia Board for Physician Workforce today announced the release of an interactive data visualization tool to display physician workforce metrics for all Georgia counties.

“We are excited to roll out this new data visualization software on our website,” GBPW Chairman Antonio Rios, M.D., said. “With tools like this available for key stakeholders and policymakers to utilize, they will have the resources they need to accurately assess the health care workforce needs of Georgia.”

The GBPW has examined the supply and distribution of Georgia’s actively practicing physicians using data from license renewals for the past 31 years. This license renewal information is important in forecasting supply and distribution trends in workforce patterns (i.e. demographics, specialty and geographical location).

The project is in collaboration with the Georgia Technology Authority and the Georgia Composite Medical Board and is also part of the larger Georgia Open Data project. Prior to the project, the GBPW would post a copy of the biennial Physician Workforce Primary Care/Core Specialties Report on its website.
