Health care workforce board selects new leadership for 2020-2021
During its quarterly meeting on October 22, the Georgia Board of Health Care Workforce voted to select Terri McFadden-Garden, M.D., as its new chairwoman for 2020-2021. David Kay, M.D., and William Kemp were also elected as vice chairman and secretary/treasurer, respectively.
Dr. McFadden is a General Pediatrician and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics of the Emory University School of Medicine. She serves as Medical Director of Primary Care at the Hughes Spalding campus of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she sees patients and teaches medical students, pediatric residents and allied health students. She is also responsible for primary care initiatives of the Emory Department of Pediatrics PARTNERS for Equity in Child and Adolescent Health (PARTNERS). She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics where she serves on the Council on Early Childhood. She has a bachelor's degree from Spelman College and a medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She and her husband, Everett Garden, have two daughters and reside in Atlanta.
Dr. Kay is an emergency medicine physician at Monroe County Hospital in Forsyth. He previously owned and practiced with Middle Georgia Women's Health Practice in Warner Robins. He also served as chairman of the Surgery and Anesthesia Department at the Medical Center of Peach County. He also spent 9 years with Donalsonville Hospital and 3 years with Memorial Hospital of Adel. Prior to a career in medicine, Dr. Kay spent several years in marketing with Georgia Power, an electric utility company. He earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and a medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. He and his wife, Clelia, have one child and reside in Macon.
Mr. Kemp is a commercial lender with Renasant Bank in Valdosta and is the consumer member on the GBHCW. He has served on the board for the Boys and Girls Club and the Valdosta City Schools Foundation. He is an active member and past-president of the Azalea City Kiwanis Club and Leadership Lowndes. He is a 2012 graduate of Leadership Georgia. Kemp earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Valdosta State University. He and his wife, Carol, have two children and reside in Valdosta.
